In Design You’ll Find These Textures In The Rugs, Curtains and Ev

A well-rounded interior designer is usually open minded and knowledgeable about a wide variety of design analysis. For example, what one person might consider rustic, another would qualify as backwoods. However, there is not much difficulty in understanding contemporary interior house design.

Technically, a home movie could be as fundamental and straightforward as a TV, DVD, and a pair of speakers. It is hard then to state precisely what differentiates a “home movie” arrangement from a “TV and stereo” array. The majority of end users of microelectronics equipment would agree that a “home theater” is actually the incorporation of moderately minimum high-quality video products with surround sound.

The proliferation of flat screen LCD or plasma TVs have in fact completed the cycle, which brought about the modern interior house design and the home theater. Since the up to date look is shiny and modern with clean lines and no fussy aspect, the flat screens are perfect. To create the current look, here are two options: mount the TV onto the wall (make sure there is a stud in the wall) or put it on a fixed surface such as a stereo stand constructed from a solid material. In contemporary interior design, you will not see cushy easy chairs, frilly draperies and curtains, or feathery chesterfield in the living room. Instead, you will see curved or shaped furniture in various angles using materials like metal, chrome, glass or polished woods.

There are absolutely no quotas to the shades you may employ when in contemporary interior house design. In your dcor you will likely never see ‘chintz’ or any patterns that are considered “busy” or “fussy.” Striking shades such as red, lime green and orange are part of a contemporary interior. Darker or more clouded shades like black, gray, dark brown or even purple are excluded. Whereas there are geometric designs in the contemporary look or they are classic pinstripes.

Texture is also big in contemporary interior house design. You will find this feels right in the carpets, drapes and even the spreads or linens. You may want to have shiny sheets matching with a natural, solid color knotted granny style looking spread or quilted blanket for contrasts to silky and soft as identifiable within the up-to-the-minute or modern appearance.

Interesting contours, glass, and geometric shapes are often found in contemporary interior house design as contrasting to warm woods and boxy designs. Glass tables, etched glass in lighting accents and minimal etched glass in sideboard set off with an exacting contemporary interior appearance. The use of metal such as edging for a glass table or shiny accent with metal chair legs in addition to chrome cupboard handles is another example of the mode.

How To Install Drywall In Your Home

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Neither is it easy nor totally impossible as some people would have us believe, for dry walling your home. For dry walling you have to follow a few simple steps. You will need equipment like plaster, patches, paint, hammer, joint putty, scraper, sandpaper, Tray, putty trial, thinner and many other tools to complete the work. It also depends on the size of the area about the exact kind of tools and materials necessary.

Sandpaper will be necessary. Once you start the drywalling process you will need to remove all lumps by giving the walls a thorough sanding until clear white is visible. Use a cloth to complete the procedure by cleaning down the wall by removing any sand particles.

If the wall has holes in it, plaster will get in. So fill in the holes with the scraper and putty trial by applying the joint putty and patch where necessary. When, a second coat of plaster is necessary, repeat the course of action until the hole is filled and scraped down to fineness.

Do not start to drywall until you have sand down the area, smoothed out the surface, and washed the wall, removing any dust particles from the wall. Do make sure that the area is dry, before you sandpaper the same. Follow the drywall method by following the systematic steps shown to you in the kit provided, till you achieve a clear smooth area.

After improving the wall by dry walling, paint it. Choosing the correct brushes and paint suited to the job will help you achieve the best effect. Before you shift around your furniture at home paint the base line area. Let the paint dry and touch up by re-arranging the, curtains and furnisher and other home items.

Dry walling is more time consuming than being difficult.

At times you can get make do with repairs rather than go for a big change. Since the walls are layered, a bit of a plaster and other tools and materials could spruce up the area. But if you have rotted area, you may want to think about other options; else you could hire an expert to get the repair done.

In case you have areas in your home which indicate wear and tear, taking care of the problem immediately can save you many problems later on. Usually a repair work is less troublesome than entire improvements, thus repairs almost always are a cheaper option.

Soon after the spackle is applied, use your sandpaper sand on the area. Use your scraper to remove or clear up the area if you notice any peeling, paint or loose plaster. Once the spackle starts drying and is sanded add a second coating to cover the entire hole. Now sand and prime the patched part. Now, you are ready to paint.

Wasnt that easy?

Tips and Advice for Your Next Kitchen Renovation

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Often, homeowners would like to remodel their kitchen and other rooms in their home but lack the financial resources for such a major project. There are quite a few ways to change the look of the kitchen, the busiest room in the house, with some attractive remodeling plans. Just taking a close look at what you would like to see in a new kitchen, along with what must to be done to improve it, can help your prioritize and get your renovation started.

The clear first step as you begin to renovate is figuring out how much money you want to spend. Then break your list down into the areas that require your attention. Even if the entire project cannot be completed at once, you can take on small projects to help you stick to your budget. There is no “right” timeline. Kitchen remodeling can be done gradually as time and money permits, but fix what must done first before it turns into a major disaster. Keeping to your priorities can help keep the project from getting out of hand. If the drain pipe is leaking water under the sink, a coat of paint on the walls will not help. Start with the essentials.

A Little Paint Can Go a Long Way

Entirely new cabinetry may not be possible depending on your existing budget for kitchen renovations, but the doors are easy to unscrew. You can sand them down and apply a fresh coat of paint or stain. Take my advice, this can make old cabinets look like new. However, you must not forget to take care of the strip of wood in between the cabinet doors. Left untreated, this will stand out like a sore thumb. While you have the cabinet covers off, you might as well replace the hardware with something modern and new.

Fresh paint goes a long way towards making a kitchen attractive. The best way to paint is to take everything off the walls, remove all nails and screws and patch the holes with spackle. Kitchen remodeling can look great no matter what as long as the job is done thoroughly. Once the spackle dries, sand the area down. Take several looks around the room to be sure no holes were missed and the wall is ready for paint. Any imperfect areas will likely show through the new paint, which will ruin all the hard work you spent trying to make your kitchen look nice.

Taking the time to plan ahead is an important part of any renovating project. Even if the project is not planned to begin for many weeks or months, you can start to put your dream together if you see the cabinets or kitchen faucets you want at a clearance sale. Buy them and keep them until you are ready to start.

Finding Woodworking Jig Advice

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Woodworking jigs are extremely useful pieces of equipment, it only takes one time with a jig to discover that you could never do the job without one in future! It’s always annoying if you drill holes too deep, or you can’t hang pictures straight. There are so many tasks which can be made so much easier by using the right woodworking jig.

A jig doesn’t have to be anything expensive or too fancy. In fact it’s often possible to create your own jig for smaller tasks. If you are a professional woodworker then you should already have quite an extensive collection of jigs! These will save your time and so allow you to be more profitable, not to mention the amount of wasted materials you can actually use.

The Short List of Jigs Long on Performance

If you don’t have much money to spend on woodworking tools then there are some important jigs which you should bear in mind.

A dowel jig is used to make precision holes for your dowel. This is a very useful jig if you are making furniture as dowels can be used in a number of locations, including holding the draw fronts onto the frame.

Another jig which is very important is the dovetail jig. By being able to do a dovetail joint you are making your work look much more professional. Old things used to have dovetail draws, a piece of furniture 50 years old is still around today because it was made very well. Dovetailed joints make it very strong and durable. Purchase a dovetail job with your jig and then you’re able to create fine pieces of professional furniture.

More important jigs include router jigs, these are used to support the wood as it passes along the saw to be cut. These can be used to help the craftsman create very fine detail.

Kreg - The Leader in Jig Creations

Kreg woodworking jigs are very popular, these normally come with face clamps so that the drill jigs can be secured firmly in place. You can use these jigs to drill to very specific and accurate depths.

If you don’t have a jig available but need to drill to a certain depth then one solution is to put a thick ring of masking tape around the drill at the depth that you want to drill to. When you drill you will see the marker so you will know when to stop drilling. This isn’t as accurate as a professional kreg woodworking jig however it really does work. It’s also extremely quick to do and you don’t need any additional equipment. These things are fine for the occasional job, however if you’re a professional then you really need the right tools for the job!

Successful Woodworking Starts With Good Tools

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Woodworking has been a popular pastime and a profession for centuries, since the days when people made crude objects from found pieces of wood. In days of yore, men would sit on the porch, relaxing after a hard day’s work, whittling with a treasured pocket knife. Wood has, over the years, become a preferred material for all sorts of possessions, including furniture.

Of course, home furnishings and many other necessities were manufactured by hand from the plentiful wood in the surrounding forests. Woodworking skills allowed families to enjoy wonderful chairs, tables, beds and more, all made from some of the beautiful hardwoods. The love for wood and the desire for quality items made from wood continues today.

Do-It-Yourself with a Little Help

With most woodworking enthusiasts (some would say fanatics) the passion for working with beautifully grained woods is something that only another woodworker can truly understand. These craftsmen are as happy as can be with the amazing appearance and texture of fine wood. They love the feel of the raw wood, and of the object as it develops. Wood craftsmen revel in the aroma of wood as it is worked into something wonderful. This fascination with wood and woodworking has spawned numerous woodworking shows, tool and supply sources and publications devoted to the craft.

For example, Rockler Woodworking is a particular combination of hardware store and school for woodworking. The company has several locations around the United States. The Woodworking School introduces people to the craft by inviting them to sign up for a class, then make a wooden screwdriver handle that is suitable for any home workbench. Several other woodworking masters have schools and classes as well, and many home improvement centers offer classes and instructional material from how to use a scroll saw to table saw reviews.

Tools of the Trade

Successful woodworking is made much easier by using the proper tools. In the hands of an experienced craftsman, woodworking tools become artist implements. A complete selection of fine tools is available, ready to transform beautiful raw woods into something special.

A modern woodworking shop might be stocked with various saws, a sander, woodworking jigs and numerous hand tools. The craftsman will probably use a good mitre saw and a table saw to create his master works. Scroll saws are ideal for creating patterns that make a finished object unique. Woodworking jigs allow precision cutting, guiding the wood during the cut and stopping the action at just the right time. Hand tools, many of them unchanged for centuries, are still used today, along with power tools that have extended the craftsman’s abilities.

Most woodworkers today use a routing tool of some kind create bevelled edges or to add details to certain items. Dovetailing for cabinet and dresser drawers is one task that workers can complete more easily with proper use of a router and other good finishing equipment.

Where the Woodworkers Meet

All of the fine work by individual artists and craftsmen would remain unseen by large numbers without international and national shows devoted entirely to woodworking. In addition to allowing men and women to display their works, the craftsmen can share ideas, discuss projects and learn more about this honoured craft. Woodworking has become a favored hobby, and a profession, among young and old. With woodworking skills passed from generation to generation, this craft is sure to survive for centuries.

Make Money by Buying Property

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Many people make a living out of buying and selling real estate, and it can actually be compared to many of the other common forms of investments such as mutual funds, bonds and stocks. However there are two main differences. It’s possible to buy and sell other investments very quickly at the market price. Buying and selling real estate takes much longer, it can take months to sell. This means that there are some important considerations when buying or selling property.

Similar to other investments you should try to sell at a time when the market is high and then intend to buy it back when the market falls in price. This is easier with other investments, however it can be much more interesting (difficult!) with the housing market.

Most stocks are the same, it’s possible to compare them fairly easily. Real estate is much more unique. Every house is completely unique. There are also substantial entry and exit costs, when selling you need to find a new property to move into, you also need to wait until there is a house which you can afford to buy in the future. The costs of buying stock are minimal, whereas with the housing market they can be quite large.

The real estate market should be treated as a long term investment tool. It’s not possible to buy and sell very quickly in order to make a fast buck. Housing is a tangible product and is much less risky than the stock market.

There are a number of different ways in which you can improve the profits which you make from buying and selling real estate. One is to buy property at very low prices. This would be possible by looking at foreclosure properties, or looking at houses which need a lot of repair to get them up to scratch. If you’re a patient person then you will probably be able to find many foreclosures which are for sale at up to 35% below the market value of the area. You can find out about these by looking in local newspapers and on websites.

It is also possible to look at areas where sellers seem to be leaving, but it is still possible to sell property there. For example previously depressed neighborhoods in Manhattan are now quite valuable. Other cities have experienced similar situations. Try to guess which area will be the next up and coming thing by seeing which has the most money spent on it for regeneration.

If you’re good at DIY or know a friend that is then you could consider buying property which needs fixing up for it to be profitable. A house with a leaky roof and water damage could be 10% below market value or more.

It is possible to make a profit from the real estate market, even if it’s starting to slow down recently. It’s only really possible for people that are willing to be patient, do lots of homework, and not get too sentimental about the properties.

by Guy Morris

Do you feel like your kitchen is outdated? Does it need a more contemporary look? If so, it is time to give your kitchen a facelift and remodel your kitchen. There are many ideas to consider when planning to remodel your kitchen. You can upgrade your refrigerator or cabinetry, or opt for a kitchen remodeling floor plan to give your kitchen an entirely new, fresh look where it will immediately attract everyone to hang out and socialize.

Begin with a remodeling plan that will meet your needs in both style and functional purposes. Remember, you will still be cooking in your kitchen. It is not all about how it looks. If you do not think you can handle the messy and oftentimes confusing aspects of remodeling, you may want to hire a contractor and professional interior designers to help you determine what you want your new kitchen to look like in the end. If anything, an interior designer can offer you some great ideas for finding the perfect design to meet all of your needs, both in style and function.

If you are interested in hiring professionals, check out the website www.kitchenbathdesign.com which is a great resource for those in need of help with kitchen remodeling floor plans, among other renovation projects. The website also features some of the latest trends in home improvements, design and decorating where you can get a look at some of the newest kitchen appliances and designs out today, many of which may be suitable for your kitchen.

Another great website to consider is www.kitchen.com which offers kitchen remodeling plans and also links to other sites specializing in other areas of the kitchen, such as cabinetry for instance. This website is a great source of unique ideas where you can also schedule a consultation.

If you think you can handle a do-it-yourself (DIY) project, then go ahead and avoid hiring professionals. Do not be afraid to try what may seem like an intimidating project. Your local home improvement store can be a great source of assistance. Home Depot and Lowe’s are two of the larger and more popular home improvement stores today. Both have staff available that can offer informative tips and help guide you to the right product to purchase and even help explain how to install the products. They can help turn a seemingly complex task into a more straightforward project. Sometimes, all it takes is a little instruction to turn a scary project into a manageable job.

Take advantage of your local home improvement stores. If you prefer to look at their products first, as well as the estimated cost of the products and supplies, you can visit their online stores at www.lowes.com and www.homedepot.com. These websites are also great source of information to help you more accurately create a budget for your DIY remodeling project so you can get an idea of what the overall project will cost and how much you can afford. For the homeowner on a budget, this is a great tool in the design planning stage!

Deco Interiors Were a Sign of Luxury

Posted by Guy Morris

by Guy Morris

Most of us are familiar with the art deco look of the 1920s and ’30s. However, there are many interesting facts about the fashion that are not that well known.

For example, even though the style was well-known and the term may have been first used in 1925, the style was not popularly known as art deco until 1968, in a book about art and interior design, long after the style’s heyday. At the time art deco was simply considered “modern”.

Art deco style is mainly reflected in clean, sparse lines, almost always in combinations of black, white, silver and perhaps red. It is a style that is simple, yet elegant, always evoking opulance. Seeing art deco interiors always makes one think of elegant ladies slinking past with their long gowns, bee-stung lips and long cigarette holders. It is a symbol of the Jazz Age.

The style was most popular in the Roaring Twenties, that era in which people were quickly become rich from the stock market. Before the crash of the Great Depression, people could indulge in luxury. And that’s what art deco interiors were about — luxury. While all previous art and design movements had a philosophy, art deco, with its sleek black-and-white lines, was simply about luxury.

Art deco also came about at the same time that movies became popular. For the first time, people could see “how the other half lived”, or at least how they thought they lived. They saw black/white/silver images of rich people on the silver screen and wanted that look for themselves.

Of course, with the stock market crash and the hard times that followed, people could not afford some indulgences any more. Those few who could were not comfortable flaunting it before those who couldn’t. When better times returned after World War II, they were accompanied by the introduction of mass production. Suddenly everyone could afford art deco and other items previously seen as luxuries. As Yogi Berri once said, “No one ever goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” And so, art deco never again achieved the popularity it once had although every so often there is a brief resurgence, usually when a popular depicts the era, such as “The Great Gatsby”.

However, art deco never completely went away. There are many organizations working to preserve and restore deco interiors in historic buildings. Many buildings created in that era are being renovated to new uses. Art deco train stations have become art museums. Art deco fixtures covered over in previous renovations are being uncovered and given new life.

Art deco can be a great style to inspire your home decor and your own personal style. Sleek, modern yet still antique, it’s a great way to make a statement.
